Teacher Amie and the Friday racing class review the parts of a sail.
Three of our boats took to the Bay of Q last night to take advantage of the nice breeze and to show the keel boat gang that with the right attitude you’re a winner every time. Skipper Mel with ballast Alex took sailed the Rotary Spirit, Skipper Sandy sailed solo in the Red Liberty and Skipper Brett and his scurvy crew member Carly set forth in the Mac Attack.
Sandy, Mel and Alex behind Brett – a common sight!
We’re the third class so we have to jockey at the start line with the spinnaker and White Sail fleets – not an easy task and sometimes a bit daunting as we’re the small boats and a 30 footer looks big, really, really big. Sailing skills, tactics, the rules of the road and courtesy all come into play to ensure that we’re competitive and good competitors!
Brett’s smile sums it up – we sailed hard, we sailed safe, we sailed fair!

It’s that time of year again when our sailors are gearing up and signing up for some serious racing action at a regatta.
Skipper Jennifer filling out her application – note the awesome shades and her right of way necklace…
August 8th & 9th, Martin 16 and Liberty in Toronto for the Reach Regatta hosted by the Queens Quay Disabled Sailing Program
August 28th – 30th, Martin 16 in Kingston for the CORK Offshore, Sport Boat and One-Design Regatta,
September 1st - 4thMartin 16 and Liberty in Toronto for the 10th Mobility Cup
Seasoned sailor skipper Jenn smokes the committee boats with the green Liberty and gets smoked by novice Nats who is sailing a much
slower Access on her third time ever in a sailboat. The committee boats were anchored, on the starboard tack and quite clearly had the right of tonnage, if not the right of way…

A few moments from a day of sailing…
A quiet sail on the

The clouds forming
And then the rain!

I really like Friday afternoons – the weekend is almost here and
it’s race training day, the day when we have both Liberty’s and both
Martin 16s in the water. Oh, a 6 sailors eager to race and to win!
Being the first to cross the line at the start can involve some
collision avoidance
The race is off with skipper Jennifer and Red as her crew taking
the lead.
